Building Bridges: Strengthening the Africa-Europe Innovation Ecosystem in Vienna

/ /

Vienna is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But beyond its stunning architecture and rich history, what makes it truly special is its people.

Over the past few weeks, I had the incredible privilege of spending time in the city, reconnecting with old friends and expanding my network. I engaged with a dynamic community of entrepreneurs, innovators, academics, policymakers, and ecosystem builders who are actively shaping the future of global business.

From boardrooms to startup hubs, the openness, ambition, and willingness to collaborate across borders left me deeply inspired.

Engaging with the Austrian Tech and Startup Ecosystem

During my time in Austria, I had the opportunity to connect with key institutions and innovation hubs driving economic development. Conversations spanned across:

  • The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber
  • The Federal Ministry
  • The Austrian Development Agency
  • Startup House | by Lumia
  • accent Makerspace

Engaging directly with the local tech ecosystem and emerging startups reinforced the massive potential for cross-border collaboration. The drive to build sustainable, scalable solutions is a shared language, whether you are operating in Central Europe or West Africa.

A Meaningful Milestone at WU Vienna

One of my personal highlights from the trip was delivering my first guest lecture at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).

Having the platform to share insights, lessons, and experiences from Africa’s rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem with students and faculty felt incredibly meaningful. A special thank you goes to Pamela Wagner for helping make this exchange of ideas possible. Education is a powerful tool for bridging global perspectives, and seeing the enthusiasm in the classroom was a testament to that.

Strengthening International Partnerships

The trip also allowed for valuable time spent with colleagues from the International Trade Centre (ITC) and partners from AiDiA—Afrodeutscher Startup Pitch. These are the individuals and organizations continuously doing the groundwork to strengthen the economic and entrepreneurial ties between Europe and Africa.

There are far too many people to mention individually, but if we crossed paths—whether over a quick coffee, at a networking event, in a classroom, or inside a conference room—thank you. Your insights and energy made this trip unforgettable.

The Work Continues: Accra to Vienna

I am now back in Accra, fully energized by the conversations, partnerships, and immense opportunities that lie ahead.

I feel incredibly fortunate to call both Austria and Ghana home. Now, the real work continues: building even stronger, more resilient bridges between Accra and Vienna, Ghana and Austria, Africa and Europe.

Until next time, Vienna.

Over to you: If you could build one strategic bridge between Europe and Africa to drive the most impact, what would it focus on: talent, trade, technology, investment, or education? Let me know in the comments below.
