Overcoming Inertia: Finding Your Drive in Business and Life

Do you feel stuck sometimes, unable to start that new project or pursue that big dream?

You’re not alone.

Let’s talk about overcoming inertia using Newton’s Second Law of Motion. (We are back again)

F = MA (Force = Mass x Acceleration)

In life terms?

Achieving goals = Your potential x Your drive

Here’s the thing: The biggest force holding you back isn’t external.

It’s internal.

As they say, the greatest enemy is “inner me.”

Think about those New Year’s resolutions.

How many of us start strong on January 1st, only to lose steam by the 7th?
Gym members cancelled? GMAT books unopened?

So, how do we overcome this inertia?

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Set short-term goals: Break big dreams into manageable steps.

Reflect on achievements: Celebrate small wins to build #momentum.

Understand your “why”: Know the deeper reasons behind your goals.

Keep long-term objectives clear: Stay focused on the big picture.

One tool I’ve found incredibly powerful is vision boarding.

In my work with organizations on personal development, we create 6-month, 1-year, and 5-year vision boards.

The results? Astounding.

One United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) trainee shared that three years post-training, they’d achieved nearly everything on their vision board.

It provided alignment, self-motivation, and the energy to overcome inertia.

Remember: Starting is often the hardest part. But once you’re in motion, you’ll find it easier to stay in motion.

You need to ask yourself…

What’s holding you back?

P.S What tactics have you used in the past to get over this feeling of Inertia?

Let’s inspire each other to turn potential into action.

After all, the force to change our lives is within us all.
